14. Practice Settings

The practice settings feature allows the instructors and parents to set the parameters of the practice mode to control the number of practice runs and settings for individual projects. There are two types of setting modes, overall settings and project settings. The overall settings apply the parameters to all projects in the system. Project settings are only applied to the one selected project.

Setting Control Parameters for All Projects

The parameters that define how the system controls the projects practice process are listed and described below:

  • Default practice processes: at least one run, two runs or three runs.
  • Force to pass all projects: Yes or No
  • Apply time constraint: Yes or No
  • Apply passing percent: Yes or No, if Yes (___%) to all projects

The procedure of setting control parameters for all projects is:

Step 1. Select the Practice Settings button in the main menu to open the parameters screen as below.

Step 2. Set the control parameters by clicking on the buttons at the end of each setting description. The current settings are shown in red. For this tutorial example, change the settings to those shown below.

Step 3. Select the Set button to set the parameters. Select OK to the prompt "Are you sure you want to set passing percent to all projects?"

 

Setting Control Parameters for an Individual Project

The parameters to specify the controlling features of an individual project in the learning mode are describe below:

  • P. percent: Specify the pass percent of the project.
  • Max. time: Specify the allowed maximum amount of time.
  • Check prob.: Specify the number of problems to be checked.
  • P. prob.: Specify the number of problems in each practice run.

The legends used to indicate the parameters are:

  • PP: Specify the pass percent for the project.
  • R1: Specify the number of problems to practice in the first run (Run 1).
  • R2: Specify the number of problems to practice in the second run (Run 2).
  • R3: Specify the number of problems to practice in the third run (Run 3). · R4: Specify the number of problems to practice in the fourth run (Run 4).
  • CK: Specify the no. of problems to be checked (counted) in the pass percent.
  • T: Specify the allowed maximum amount of time in the practice run.

The procedure for defining control setting parameters for each individual project is:

Step 1. Select the Practice Settings button in the main menu.

Step 2. Click on the Project Settings button located at the upper right corner of the screen to open the projects list screen as shown below.

Step 3. Click on the down arrow to list the grade levels, and select the grade level.

Step 4. Click on the down arrow to list the categories, and select the category to get the desired projects list. For the tutorial example, select level F-5, Category C-1 (Numbers and Decimals) to get the projects list as shown here.

Step 5. Click on the word Update in front of the project title, (ex. Place Value to Millions) to open the parameter settings window.

Step 6. Set the control parameters by typing values in the boxes. For the tutorial, type these values.

Step 7. Click Update. Select OK to the prompt "Are you sure you want to change project settings?" The settings area will show "updated" as the confirmation that the changes have been made.

Step 8. Close the project window to return to Project Settings screen. Changed settings can be viewed on this screen.
